Thespian Youth Festival Showcase 2024: A Triumph of Young Talent and Community Spirit

The Thespian Youth Festival Showcase 2024, held on May 30th at Wisma Geylang Serai, was a decent success, leaving an indelible mark on all who attended and a positive experience on those who participated. Tickets were sold out and we have the parents, teachers, and audience to thank for making this event a success. We are thrilled to share a review of this remarkable event and highlight how it benefitted our clients, participants, and the broader community

A Celebration of Young Talent

The showcase featured a diverse array of performances, from classic plays to original works crafted by our talented students. The young thespians, coming from 3 different secondary schools, captivated the audience with their creativity, passion, and professionalism. Each performance was a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and instructors.

Students presented original plays, showcasing their ability to write, direct, and perform. These productions were a highlight, demonstrating the creativity and initiative fostered through our programs.

Meridian Secondary School Drama Club performed on original piece titled Dont Stop Me Now. A play about a currently famous 17-year-old, praised for her beautiful, model-like looks, and she enjoyed that fame. However, she wasn’t always this popular. In fact, when she was younger, she faced many challenges, from losing her mother to being bullied for her weight.

Pasir Ris Secondary School Drama Club showcased a tear jerking piece titled Whispers of Strength. Due to unforseen circumstances, they were not able to perform live but they provided a video of the performance that they did about 4 weeks before at the Festive Theatre. This play was about a fifteen-year-old Adam, awkward and quirky, struggles with friendships and bullying at school while unaware that his terminally ill mother, Haslinda, hides her condition to protect him. At home, Adam finds solace in Haslinda but often lashes out in frustration. Haslinda silently endures, maintaining a brave front. When Haslinda passes away, Adam delivers a rare eulogy at her Malay-Muslim funeral, revealing the hardships both he and his mother faced.

Riverside Secondary School Drama Club  performed a freshly written piece titled Tomorrow’s Child. A piece that shares the unique experience of childhood that is unique to every part of the world. Some children bask in the warmth of security, with cozy homes and meals aplenty, while others navigate lives fraught with uncertainty and struggle. “Tomorrow’s Child” is a tapestry woven with poems, quotes, and common wisdom from myriad voices across the globe. This declamation invites you on an evocative journey, where these words illuminates the diverse realities of childhood, offering a poignant glimpse into the dreams and challenges children.
